What is the Velocity
Box? First a little history: The WorkPrinter series has traditionally employed
"capture on demand" rapid stop motion capture via a modified mouse, which
we call the "sync mouse". In practice, each time a frame lands in the gate
of the WorkPrinter, there is a contact closure on a sensor. The sync mouse
is thus triggered to capture a frame and write it to the drive. This works
pretty good but you need a computer with a fast Raid array, must set the
timing disk of the WorkPrinter to your camera/computer combination, and
are limited to about 8fps capture speed. On the other hand, the Sniper
series only uses a single drive but still captures frame by frame at about
15-20fps via the Velocity software! How is this possible? The Velocity
software works in a streaming capture mode, which is much less resource
intensive than rapid stop motion capture. This is achieved by interleving
sync pulses from the Sniper with the video during the capture process.
The Velocity software uses these pulses to identify and harvest the progressive
frames from the stream to recreate the frame by frame AVI file.
So what does the Velocity Box do?
Well, Velocity Box interprets the contact closures of any MovieStuff WorkPrinter and translates those closures into the sync pulses that the Velocity software will recognize. You won't be capturing faster than 8fps but you won't need a raid for standard def captures on a PC and there is no timing disk to set! The Velocity software also transcodes NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC automatically. It outputs progressive or interlaced AVI files, as well. You will need a Canopus ADVC 55, 100 or 110 analog to digital converter and a PC with XP or Vista. This will not work on a Mac, sorry.
And here's the best part:
The Velocity Box will allow you to capture in full HD to your PC!
That's right. If you use the Velocity HD software in conjunction with an XP or Vista PC that has a BlackMagic Intensity Pro HD card, you can capture the uncompressed HD from your HD camcorder frame by frame with only a basic, internal two drive Raid array. The Velocity HD software will capture in the super high resolution MJPEG-HD codec (not MPEG) and will output HD or SD, PAL or NTSC, progressive or interlaced video files that are compatible with virtually all PC or Mac NLE systems that can handle HD.
This unit has a switching
power supply that will run on 100-256VAC, 50 or 60 cycles.
No transformer is
necessary for international use.
