Snowden Becker - Academy Film Archive        DV8 Sniper-Pro

As an archive, preservation is our foremost goal; in fact, preservation concerns have often prevented us in the past from providing access to the home movies and amateur films that enrich our collection. By transferring these materials in-house with the Snipers, we can eliminate the possibility of off-site mishaps during transport, drastically reduce our outside telecine costs, and keep the film originals safely in the vaults--all while providing an unprecedented level of access to the content of the films themselves. It's well-nigh miraculous, I tell you. Image quality is everything we'd hoped for, and the Sniper units themselves are mercifully easy to use, even for those who aren't terribly familiar with small-gauge film projectors and equipment. We'll certainly be recommending the setup to anyone who asks.

Jim Kulig  - DV8 Sniper and SlideStream

After purchasing and using your DV8 Sniper 8mm transfer system, I was so pleased with the quality of the output that I decided to make an additional purchase from MovieStuff. I have recently purchased the new SlideStream transfer system. This system really works as easily as you said it would. I have already received feedback from my first client expressing how pleased they are with the quality. I am really pleased with the quality definition of the conversions. I purchased the SlideStream before you created instructions on your website. Your outstanding customer service and patience in helping me over the phone to set up the SlideStream goes well above just having good customer service. You never cease to amaze me how quickly and thoroughly you respond to any of my questions. I would highly recommend the SlideStream (as well as the DV8 Sniper) to anyone interested in transferring slides to a digital format.  This unit practically runs itself. My kudos to you and your staff for another great MovieStuff product.

Justin Lovell - DV8 Sniper Pro (16mm and 8mm)

"I own my own transfer company (www.justinlovell.com) and am one of the only people capable of transferring super 8 negative film in Canada. I have upgraded to a dedicated DV8 SNIPER for super 8, a dedicated DV8 SNIPER for regular 8 and a SNIPER 16mm which I absoloutly love. (I compared the quality of my sniper 16 to a recent rank transfer and the registration on my SNIPER 16 was unbelievably better than the rank!).  I now shoot music video and documentary work on Super 16mm and provide affordable cinematography & transfer packages for people who want a real true film look.  As a filmmaker, this is the ultimate setup for me. Roger has been behind me 100% in customer service.  He stands behind his products, no questions asked and has always been there for me- not just in product support, but in advising me in my own filmmaking. He is a wealth of knowledge. I look forward to what Roger has in store with his new units.  He's always doing something new with the upgrades to push his products to the next level.  I love talking with Roger because he's always got something new in R & D. I can tell by the tone of his voice that he is always pumped up and excited about the new toys and advancements that he's come up with. If you're looking for a quality transfer unit that you know you can rely on, don't even question going with a piece of movie stuff equipment."

Rob Kainz  - WorkPrinter

Before too much time passes and I forget to do this, I just wanted to  say thank you so much for the WorkPrinter XP that you sold me last  year. I digitized and compressed the 40 reels of family footage to  MPEG2, H2.64 and DV for long term storage only to bring back another  40 reels from Graz, Austria recently that was sitting in my Opa's old  house! So there is still more to go, including my wife's family  reels, but the results were superb - better than I had expected. The  WorkPrinter XP working together with Final Cut Pro's great features  (especially color correction) has been a winning combination that  really pushed the films I converted over the top and has impressed  everybody who has seen them, especially my Dad, who said they look  better than they ever have!

Ron Southern -  WorkPrinter

What I like the most about your method is being able to sit the frame in the gate without it catching fire,  and concentrate on focus, alignment and colour balance. No interframe slurring, and being able to see the entire frame. I worked for the BBC for 32 years, having recently retired, and have now set up my own company.  During my time at the BBC, I used  Rank Cintel TKs occasionally, and knew what was possible on a good day. I am amazed at the clarity of your aerial image technique, when its all set up properly; the fine detail on s8 can be as good as a FSTK.

Steve Murphy - WorkPrinter

"I'm really enjoying the Workprinter. I needed something that would put what's actually on the film into the computer, frame by frame, without streaks, blur, wobble, or uneven lighting. Your machine has done just that.  Once properly set-up, the Workprinter's been working perfectly every time, and its ease of use has improved my archival workflow.  I work by capturing the entire film width, and I've noticed that the sprocket holes maintain a perfectly stable position across all frames, and each image looks like it was run through a scanner at the resolution of the camera used.  I'm using a PIII733, 512MB RAM, W98SE, separate 7200 rpm capture drive into Premiere 6 at 6fps via firewire with no motion blur or pulldown artifacts whatsoever.  So thanks for the unit and also for your rapid responses to my questions -- you've been most helpful."

Matt Steeves  - WorkPrinter
I had to write and tell you how impressed I am with the Workprinter-XP. I've been using the machine for about 3 months now, and I must tell you that every time I use it I'm amazed at how simple and efficient it is.  I have passed thousands of feet of film through it so far, and every time the result is spectacular.  This is the essentially the basics of professional telecine applied to 8mm film! I can't imagine how this could be done any other way and still get the same result.  I'm extremely pleased that I invested in this equipment, it has proven to be a very valuable addition to my business.  I also wanted to thank you for your assistance and patience, your advice was paramount to getting it to work properly.  I can now confidently say I offer the best 8mm transfer service in the area.  Thank you very much!

Jeff Dodson - WorkPrinter

"Finally there is an easy way to copy 8mm films, frame-by-frame, into my computer. Registration on my Workprinter is rock solid, so each frame is crisp and steady, with no blur or ghosting like I get from my Goko TC-20. Also, the film registration never 'rolls' like some Rank transfers I have seen. Another great feature of the Workprinter is that the illumination is bright and even across the whole frame, so there are no hotspots to deal with. Also, the bulbs are cheap and easy to find. My local Kroger's, Bi-Lo, Lowe's, and Home Depot all carry them (about $1.75 for two!). I use a cheap Sony consumer-level DV camera (single chip) and get great image quality with my Workprinter. Definitely better quality than the Goko TC-20, especially with scenes containing fast motion, and rivalling some Rank transfers I have had done. This is definitely the best thing going right now for 8mm film transfers, especially considering that the unit costs about as much as one Rank telecine session! I think if you have any inclination towards DIY transfer, this is the way to go."

Jim Grant - WorkPrinter

"I can safely say that this Workprinter was a huge help! If I had faster dialup, I would show you a sample of what I did with the Anniversary project for my wife's parents. The film came out flicker-free and crystal clear. It's just like viewing the film through the naked eye, and yet, it's on the computer screen. Conversion from film to camera was a breeze with the connections provided. All I had to do was aim and shoot, so to speak. I may actually start my own business with this equipment since nobody in my area is doing conversions from 8mm to video. I am certainly grateful that I came across the Workprinter, or else I'd have to rely on someone else handling film over 50 years old, and I don't need to mention the word "priceless." Thanks, Roger for a wonderful creation!"

Ken Hartman -   WorkPrinter

Just to let you know, WorkPrinter works magnificently, superbly, wonderfully, etc. etc.! What an ingenious use of old and new technology! About ten years ago, the then relatively new computer tech made possible for me the dream of the preservation of home videos and the ability to create near Hollywood videos, at an affordable price. You, and your very clever machines, have made possible another dream, the preservation of even older home movies, the editing of such, and again, at an affordable price.

Jay Brent - WorkPrinter

"I really am impressed with this Workprinter.  It does a better job than I thought it would.  I'm even running with auto focus and auto white balance with great results.. The quality of the digital copy is better than I ever saw on the original film when shown on a projector to screen.  I'm amazed because these conversions to digital are so terrific. I have spent lots of money converting with telecine filmchain and this system is just as good.  You probably think I'm running some kind of supercomputer to get this conversion done.  Wrong.  Dell 4100 1meghz, 512 ram, Win2000, Maxtor 60 gig system drive, Maxtor 60 gig capture drive, Pyro OHCI card with Premiere 6. Roger Evans is the guy and is extremely helpful either by email or telephone. Thanks again for the terrific product and the fine service."

"I looked everywhere for an affordable, reliable, high-quality film transfer system when I found MovieStuff.  e ordered an 8mm Workprinter and were thrilled with the results. We bought a second Workprinter to keep up with the demand and recently started doing 16mm film transfers. Roger provided us with outstanding customer service and never hesitated to walk us through setting up the systems over the phone. We are happy with our purchases and look forward to buying more from him in the future."

Bill Davidson - CineMate

"I looked at the demo tape Roger made of both the Cinemate and the Workprinter and it was a real hard decision. The Workprinter was a bit crisper and clearer than the Cinemate but the Cinemate was still so incredibly detailed and rich with color that it blew away any of the other transfer devices I'd looked at so far, particularly the much over rated Goko units. In the end I needed speed as I had over 100 home movies to transfer and not a lot of time. The fact that the Cinemate was able to transfer in real time clinched the deal for me. I ordered one and, man, it doesn't get any easier than this. I just set it up, aligned my Sony camera, turned it on and - presto - instant movie transfer. I may not be an expert but I know a darned good thing when I see it and this Cinemate is the real deal. A clean, flicker free image. The fact that it shows the entire frame is a real asset. In fact, we had no idea that a long lost relative was visible at the very edge of some old regular 8mm footage until we viewed it on the Cinemate. What a great deal."

Gary Niederhauser -   CineMate

"Roger, i have a friend of mine who has a duplication business here in des moines.. he's been sending his films to a 'leading' company in kansas city to have processed. He got an order back today, i took one of the reels and ran it through your machine (Cine-20) and we did a side by side quality comparison.  Your machine slaughtered the system they use in Kansas City.. not even close! Thanks again for everything Roger."

Tom Carbo -  CineMate

"Just wanted to let you know that my Cinemate 20 system arrived today and I ran approx. 400 ft of film through. I must say I am very impressed! I want to thank you for an awesome product and let you know that I will most likely be purchasing a 2nd in the near future. I transfered approximately 100,000 ft of 8mm/super 8 film last year and am looking forward to providing my customers with a more superior product now that I'm using a Cinemate20!"

Jonathon Perino -     WorkPrinter

"As you might have expected, I am more than a little delighted with the Work Pinter XP we purchased from Moviestuff, so much so we will be ordering a DV8 Pro in due course as an additional item rather than as a trade in. The results using the new version of CIne Cap just released are superb and very smooth. Lighting is even overall as promised and the final product we produce is certainly worthy of our new price structure to reflect our investment. I am really amazed at the image quality with Normal 8 mm film, this surprised me as usual projection methods are really very grainy and as you do not get the whole frame this is intensified, the work printer XP means we can use the entire frame to the edge of the sprocket holes and the results are superior to anything we have done in the past. Avid Tech has enjoyed an enviable reputation for quality film transfers for the past few years and now we can do even better with frame by frame our market share is increasing as there are few frame by frame services in Australia. I have always lusted after broadcast quality film transfer capability but thought this would have to be a RANK Cintel or Turbo, not any more. Thanks for tr inventing the wheel, the concept is great and works a treat."

Tim Dougherty - CineMate

"Very nice.  The unit worked perfectly right out of the box.  In addition, Roger's service went above and beyond.  He quickly answered at least a dozen "dumb question" emails from me.  Thanks, Roger for providing a great product and helpful support.  Now it's time to make some money!"

Ralph Morris - CineMate

"I was searching the internet for film-to-video transfer devices when I came across Roger’s website. Real time transfer was a significant consideration for me, and after discussion with Roger I went with the CineMate-20. Twenty frames per second is a very good speed for transferring old home movies. They have the right “look” at that speed.  This unit is steady as a rock; there is no visible flicker and nodrift. The projector mechanism is very simple and has been very kind to my 35+ year old films.  While I did not think I would be interested in frame grabs, I immediately spotted some images that will be treasured by family members, even if they are blow-ups of 8mm frames. Roger’s customer service has been beyond excellent.  I don’t know how he makes any profit on these units given the telephone conversations and emails he has invested in helping me select and use this unit and his follow-up to be sure every thing is working properly.  If you do not need the 1:1 frame copy capability of the WorkPrinters, I would enthusiastically recommend the CineMate line to you."

Chris Haslewood - CineMate

"I have the CineMate-PAL and would not hesitate in recommending this Projector,
the ability to be able to set-up the frame and focus on a still single frame is a very useful feature of this projector, the light output is bright and very even over the whole frame, and there is not the slightest flicker when running the film, the speed control also allows you to adjust the film speed to the ideal required. Overall an excellent product. I had some very old Standard 8 film that I tried to run on four different projectors with no luck but this film went through the Cine-Mate with no problems. I transfer films as a hobby but to professional standards with effects and sound if you live in the UK and have any films you would like transferred to Video or DVD please contact me."

Jim Dunn - DV8 Transfer

"Just had my first Super 8 transfer done at Roger's in Houston and it turned out great. I warned him about a badly backlit closeup in the roll that was a key shot in the sequence, the facial expression being underexposed by about two stops and not discernable. He popped it up enough to make the gag work, and saved my tail in the doing! Thanks, Roger!"

Aaron Platt - DV8 Transfer

"I must say that Roger's transfer service offers an affordable and professional quality transfer that is unmatched by any other method of transferring 8mm film to date.  The transfers are clean, show no sign of being a "video transfer" that you'd expect from a traditional (and expensive) telecine session such as many film artifacts, vignetting brightness, and a frame doubling kind of feel to the end product.  I was amazed at how well you can make this format look on video when transferred with such an effective method.  By far the best way to get the Super 8 format in the digital realm today!  I'm a dedicated customer for sure."

Mike Sirois - DV8 Transfer

"Roger, I have to say I am very pleased with the transfer service you offer.  As an amateur Super8 filmmaker your service makes this filmmaking game that much easier. I highly recommend your DV8 transfers.  If anyone is searching for quality, affordabiltiy, and professional service, all equally important, MovieStuff transfers is the place."

Philip Nunnally - DV8 Transfer

"Wow--I am a huge fan already! Just got the converted DV tape back this morning and checked it out. I had no idea you could transfer that kind of detail and dynamic range from Super8 to NTSC video. The picture is rock
solid with no flicker at all. I'll never transfer from a projector shooting off the wall again. Great job on the film cleaning, too--my reel needed it badly. I will definitely be telling our local filmmaker community about you. Thanks again!"
