The mi-Skan HD personal telecine will transfer both super 8 and regular 8mm film in one, easy to use unit. The mi-Skan HD has a hyper-precise electronic sync circuit that maintains hands-off, flicker-free transfers from beginning to end and incorporates a built-in HD camera for direct scanning off the enlarged gate for access to 100% of the film frame. Unlike other transfer units that crop the image and shoot off the softer, base side of the film with a standard definition 1CCD camera limited to about 490 lines, the mi-Scan HD scans off the sharper, emulsion side of the film at full 1080i using a CMOS hi-definition sensor containing almost 3 million pixels for maximum clarity. The built-in HD camera bypasses the condenser lens and mirror assembly for increased resolution and a smaller footprint, allowing the installation of the mi-Skan HD into the tightest of workspaces, without regard to lighting conditions. A diffused light source reduces the appearance of scratches, and fewer optical surfaces to keep clean means less maintenance and increased productivity. The mi-Skan HD comes with a super bright, ultra-cool LED light source that will protect the film from burning or warpage. Precision lens control makes focusing a snap. It uses the uncompressed HD output of the camera to bypass compression artifacts typical of HDV. The mi-Skan HD has auto exposure or manual exposure via a handy remote. An on-panel preset lets you fine tune the exposure for maximum shadow and highlight detail in the film.

The mi-Skan HD is available in two running speeds: NTSC can be built for 15 or 20fps. PAL can be built for 16.66 or 20fps. Easy to use controls limit the need for specialized labor. Easy-as-pie manual threading and the sprocketless drive protects your customers' films from the potential damage typically found on other sprocket driven projectors and auto-load transfer devices. Manual unload of the film in mid-reel is a breeze due to the removable side cover and sprocketless film path. Capturing in HD offers the clearest, most crisp picture possible next to a Rank transfer and why MovieStuff telecine units are number one, worldwide.

Technical stuff:

The recorded HD image from the mi-Skan HD is upside down and will have to be flipped vertically through a switcher or, more typically, on your NLE at the time of editing or when you author your BluRay disc. This is a simple one time key-stoke that should add no additional time in post. Capture from the mi-Skan HD is via component HD and will require a Mac or PC that has that capability. We recommend a PC or Mac using the BlackMagic Decklink Extreme capture card and a fast, internal two drive Raid-0 array for capture. Email for exact computer requirements, if desired. As an alternative, you can purchase a Mac or PC with the BlackMagic card already installed from MicroSearch in Houston, Texas. You will need to contact them for current pricing.

The mi-Skan HD has a maximum capacity of 400 feet (take up reel included) and comes pre-mounted on a convenient base. This unit has a universal internal switching power supply that can run on 100-256VAC at 50 or 60 cycles, so no transformer is required for international use.
