About the Universal PinBlock Scanner

Originally custom designed and built for an archive with a large, fragile collection of 35mm nitrate, we were so pleased with the result that we decided to offer it as a regular product. This unit is air cooled for safe handling of flammable nitrate film and requires little to no previous skills to operate. Film is captured frame-by-frame and is instantly playable in the Universal software immediately after capture. If a sample strip of film is sent to us, custom pins can be made that screw into the adjustable blocks. Registration pins can be made for virtually any format and can be changed from one format to the next in minutes. Obviously, using this scanner is not a fast process but, for archives working on a limited budget that occasionally get the odd roll or lone strip of shrunken large format film and no way to handle it, this unit can be a very practical way to address safely accessing that imagery without having to send it out for scanning or, worse, threading it through a projector.
