The DV8 Sniper-HD will transfer both silent super 8 and silent regular 8mm film in one, easy to use unit. The ScanStream Sniper-HD incorporates a built-in HD camera for direct, frame-by-frame scanning off the enlarged gate for access to 100% of the film frame. Unlike other transfer units that crop the image and shoot off the softer, base side of the film with a standard definition 1CCD camera limited to about 490 lines, the Sniper-HD scans off the sharper, emulsion side of the film at full 1080p using a CMOS hi-definition sensor containing almost 3 million pixels for maximum clarity. The built-in HD camera bypasses the condenser lens and mirror assembly for increased resolution and a smaller footprint, allowing the installation of the Sniper-HD into the tightest of workspaces, without regard to lighting conditions. A diffused light source reduces the appearance of scratches, and fewer optical surfaces to keep clean means less maintenance and increased productivity. The Sniper-HD comes with a super bright, ultra-cool LED light source that will protect the film from burning or warpage. A handy, jumbo LCD confidence monitor and unique, precision lens control makes focusing a snap. It uses the uncompressed HD output of the camera to bypass compression artifacts typical of HDV. The Sniper-HD has auto exposure or manual exposure via a handy remote. An on-panel preset lets you fine tune the exposure for maximum shadow and highlight detail in the film.

This ScanStream unit performs TRUE frame-by-frame scanning just under 15fps. It offers 100%, totally flicker-free playback at any speed desired, including 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20 and 24/25fps. It will also output 1:1 HD or SD files with no speed added for archiving purposes. The unit outputs both PAL and NTSC in SD and HD, interlaced and true progressive via the unique Velocity-HD software. Easy to use controls limit the need for specialized labor and fast, automated computerized operation makes it ideal for high volume shops where fast cycle times are required with minimum labor. Manual threading and the sprocketless drive protects your customers' films from the potential damage typically found on other sprocket driven projectors and transfer devices. Simple side access to the film path makes mid-reel unloading a breeze. Technical stuff:

This unit requires a PC built to spec using the BlackMagic Intensity Pro HD capture card and a fast, internal two drive Raid-0 array for capture. Email for exact computer requirements, if desired. As an alternative, you can purchase a computer with the BlackMagic card already installed and specifically designed for use with the Sniper HD from MicroSearch in Houston, Texas. You will need to contact them for current pricing.

The DV8 Sniper-HD Pro has a maximum capacity of 400 feet (take up reel included) and comes pre-mounted on a convenient base. This unit has an internal universal switching power supply that can run on 100-256VAC, 50 or 60 cycles, so no transformer is required for international use. Your operating systems should be 32bit XP Pro, Vista Ultimate or Windows 7 Ultimate. This software will not work on a Mac but the files produced can be edited on a Mac.

Software:

Written specifically for use with the ScanStream Sniper series, Velocity-HD ($150) produces pristine downcoverted standard def .AVI files in the DV codec that can be imported into your existing edit program (even Mac!). HD files are produced in the universal M-JPEG (not MPEG) HD codec. These files are closer in quality to uncompressed but are a fraction of the size making them ideal for small business applications.  Velocity-HD will also produce codec free, numbered image sequences in a folder as JPEG, PNG, BMP or TIFF. Velocity-HD provides post-capture speed preview and will automatically batch process the necessary speed changes for your footage. While Velocity-HD is required for use with the Sniper-HD series, it is not a product of MovieStuff and must be purchased separately via a private purchase link supplied after Sniper purchase.

NOTE: Velocity-HD is available exclusively to MovieStuff ScanStream Sniper customers only
and will not work on previous Sniper or Sniper-Pro units.
